another silly open thread on music

When was the last time a song on the radio put you in a stupidly good mood?

My new public radio station (WFIT) is a tropical version of the Spindale station (WNCW). Less, more alt.whitey rhythm-n-blooz on the local playlist between Democracy Now and World Cafe.

So, I'm making lunch and the Squeeze hit, "Black Coffee In Bed" comes on the radio, which instantly improves my mood by about 100 percent. Not that I was in a bad mood. Now, I'm in a stupidly good mood.

So, open music thread -- what stupid song on the radio has done this for you guys recently....

OMG!!! rock and roll bagpipes will do it every time. one of the finest nightmares moments was having bagpipe accompaniment one new years' eve.

what the fuck? rock and roll saxaphone is no where near as uplifting. rock and roll flute -- forget it. the only thing that comes close is rock and roll tapdancing -- which is apparently a "thing" now.

next big thing -- ?? -- i'm thinkin' -- rock and roll flugle horn...

'Soul meets body' by deathcab for cutie. Didn't even know the name of the band. I was at work when the station played it and I just stopped working and concentrated on it, absorbed it. It's was that damn good.

next big thing... rock and the waaay underused ebow.

Haven't heard anything like that on the radio lately, but I did spend last week at a camp teaching urban youth how to make thumb piano's and at lunch one day an episcopal priest sitting across from me launched into singing the first verse of the late 70's? "hit?" "Children of the Sun" by Billy Thorpe. The guy grew up in Northern Va and it apparently affected him a great deal to still remember it, said he had it on vinyl...

This one time at band camp...

Anything by the Violent Femmes...saw them at Summerfest in Milwaukee in the early 90's...awesome band. I'd have to thank Bruce for turning me on to them.

OH and everytime I hear "Fat Bottom Girls" I gotta turn it waaaaay up!

"Losing My Religion" in the CAR!! Such a great song to sing along to and drive really fast, maybe blow through a couple of red lights. Remember, James Dean said, "Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today." "But that was just a dream, just a dream...JUST A DREAM." Perfect subliminial...subliminity!!
