arcane phrase retrieval

Does anybody remember the origin of "It was that a half a peanut butter sandwich that sent (him/me/whoever) over the edge?" I think it came from an incident at a Dead show, but it also entered my life at the exact same time as "leglessly hairlessly brainlessly" as a catchphrase, so maybe it's a Butthole Surfers thing.

i could be totally wrong, but i think the definition and derivation of the phrase was a dead show. hampton, va.

ann, barbara and i sitting in the nissan watching a guy have a very loud, bad acid trip ("man, yer dead... NO! i'm dead... wait... COOKIE!") ...while his friends and a catholic priest tried to soothe him by holding him down and playing circus music on a casio keyboard. watching this drama unfold, eating p-nut butter sandwiches, wiping the fog off the window of the nissan (like we're at the drive in), we figured we must have somehow had something to do with his problem. therefore, it was the "half a pnut butter sandwich that sent him over the edge."

coincidentally, when the paramedics came and asked what he had taken, his friends said he had only eaten a sandwich.
